USA Baseball Honors Smoak
USA Baseball announced today that former LumberKings’ first-baseman Justin Smoak (’08) has been named the 2009 Richard W. Case Award winner. The award is presented to USA Baseball’s Athlete of the Year and will be given to Smoak on January 29 at the Texas Rangers annual awards banquet.
Smoak tore up international competition at the 2009 IBAF Baseball World Cup last September, hitting .291 with 9 HR (a U.S. World Cup record) and 22 RBI. He won the MVP award in helping Team USA capture the gold medal.
