LumberKings at Timber Rattlers – Game 75

Gameday 6-27.png

Don’t worry, I didn’t die!

After a very long (10 day) hiatus, the LumberBlog has returned! Well, we can now call this a Midwest League playoff caliber blog, as the LumberKings are locked into the first half wild card spot, and will play the Peoria Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs come September. For now, there is a lot more baseball left to be played, as after nine straight against the Kane County Cougars, the LumberKings head up to Neuroscience Group Field for the first game of a seven game road trip against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Art Warren goes for the LumberKings, searching for his team and league leading ninth win. This will be Warren’s fourth start of the year against the Timber Rattlers. Wisconsin counters with righty Jordan Yamamoto, who in his last outing against Clinton, shut out the LumberKings on two hits over six innings. The LumberKings with a win can match their season long winning streak of five games, which they set back in April. Now for the links!

LumberKings at Cougars – Games 67 & 68

Gameday 6-17

Lets play 2…for the second time in three days!

After last night’s heartbreaker against the Cougars, the LumberKings will play their second doubleheader in the last three days. In game one, it will be Zack Littell as he makes his team leading 14th start. Littell in his last start went eight shutout innings against Beloit, facing one over the minimum while striking out a season high nine. Game two will have the LumberKings throwing Pablo Lopez, who was bumped to today after throwing too many warmup pitches during the Tuesday rainout. Kane County will throw 2015 2nd round pick Alex Young who spent over a month this year on the DL. Young threw five innings of one run baseball against Clinton back on April 9th, when he opposed Zack Littell. Sam McWilliams goes in game two for Kane County, making his season debut. He was acquired by the Diamondbacks in the offseason in the trade that sent Jeremy Hellickson to the Phillies. A sweep gets the LumberKings in the playoffs, so let’s get to the links, we’ve got an exciting day ahead!

LumberKings at Timber Rattlers – Game 59

Gameday 6-9 V2

This is the type of day dreams are made of! Also, this is the 59th game of the year? Where did the time go?!

The LumberKings and Timber Rattlers will play the rubber game of their three game series tonight at Neuroscience Group Field, as Clinton looks to keep pace in the Western Division race. Pablo Lopez takes the ball for the LumberKings, making his third start of the year. Lopez has allowed just three runs over 11 innings so far through his first two starts. Tonight the LumberKings will face their second MLB rehabber this season in the form of the Brewers Matt Garza. The first rehabber Clinton faced this year came back on April 29th, as Reds righty Anthony DeSclafani pitched for Dayton. Garza was a member of the Beloit Snappers in 2005 while in the Minnesota Twins organization, and posted a 3-3 record with a 3.54 ERA over 56 innings. This will be the final game of a six game road trip, as the LumberKings return home later this evening and will start a six game homestand tomorrow against the Beloit Snappers. Now for the links!

LumberKings at Timber Rattlers – Game 58

Gameday 6-9

Another fantastic day for baseball here in Wisconsin!

After the LumberKings recorded their seventh shutout of the season last night against Wisconsin, they look to take their third straight series tonight with a win against the Timber Rattlers. Midwest League All Star Art Warren goes for the LumberKings, searching for his team leading seventh win. In two starts against the Timber Rattlers, Warren is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA over ten innings. He shutout Wisconsin over five innings in his only start here at Neuroscience Group Field back on May 11th. Hawaii native Jordan Yamamoto goes for the Timber Rattlers, making his fifth start of the season, and his first against the LumberKings. He is in a tandem with Devin Williams, who will follow Yamamoto in relief. As of the moment, the LumberKings remain a game back of Cedar Rapids for first place in the Western Divison, but are now a half game back of Peoria for the wild card spot as the Chiefs swept a doubleheader from Burlington yesterday. LumberKings at Timber Rattlers – Game 57

Gameday 6-7

We have returned to the state of Wisconsin, bit further north this time though.

After a three game series in Beloit, the LumberKings went back to Clinton for the off day, but came right back into the great state of Wisconsin today for the first of a three game series against the Timber Rattlers. This is the third series these two clubs have played against each other in the first half and the second series they have played at Neuroscience Group Field. Zack Littell goes for the LumberKings, making his team and league leading 12th start of the season. Last time out, he threw a seven inning complete game against Quad Cities, the first of his career. David Burkhalter counters for Wisconsin, as he will face Clinton for the second time this year. The Louisiana native gave up four earned runs in 3.2 innings back on May 11th against the LumberKings. It is a bit colder tonight than you might expect in June, but Appleton is the furthest north city in the Western Division, so colder weather isn’t totally unexpected. Now for some links and news!

The big story that broke earlier today is the selection of four LumberKings to the 2016 Midwest League All Star Game. Art WarrenDarin GilliesDalton Kelly, and Logan Taylor will be Clinton’s representatives. Kelly is guaranteed per the Midwest League’s official release to start at first base. You can click here to read our full release.

LumberKings at Snappers – Game 56

Gameday 6-5

A reversal of view, could lead to a reversal of fortune. Love me a rubber game!

The rubber game of this three game set against Beloit is today, on another great day here at Pohlman Field. Jeffeson Medina makes his first start of the year for the LumberKings after recording his first eight outings out of the bullpen. Beloit will counter with Boomer Biegalski who is making his tenth start (12th total appearance). One of his two relief outings came against the LumberKings, allowing a run over 4.1 innings of work. Clinton currently is tied with Peoria for second and two games behind Cedar Rapids for the Western Division lead, so this game is of the utmost importance to win. Now, for the links!

LumberKings at Snappers – Game 55

Gameday 6-4

Got here early today…yes I walked 3 miles from the hotel

After a great win last night in the series opener, the LumberKings look to take the series from the Snappers on what is turning out to be another gorgeous day in Beloit. Nick Wells takes the ball for Clinton, looking to get back on the right track after not going more than four innings in each of his last two starts. This will be a pitching rematch from April 11th as the man who opposed Wells in that start, Angel Duno goes for Beloit. Duno allowed two runs on four hits in that outing, but lasted only four innings. There are fireworks here at Pohlman Field tonight, and the LumberKings hope to have some fireworks of their own at the plate. Now, for the links!

Greetings again friends, as after a three game home series against Quad Cities, we are back on the road, this time from Beloit, where the LumberKings will square off for the first of three games with the Snappers, the Midwest League’s Oakland Athletics affiliate. Nick Neidert takes the ball for the LumberKings, making his third start of 2016. The Mariners 2015 2nd round selection has been lights out, allowing just one earned run over 10 innings. LumberKings at Bees – Game 49

Gameday 5-29

A fantastic day for a ballgame in Burlington!

Oftentimes a big performance on offense can heal all wounds, and after getting walked off on Friday night, the LumberKings responded in a big way with an 11 run output last night against the Bees. Today, it will be a battle of top prospects on the mound as Nick Neidert goes for Clinton against Jaime Barria for Burlington. Neidert, the 5th overall prospect in the Mariners system by Baseball America, is making his second start of the season. His Midwest League debut came on Tuesday against Wisconsin, where he threw five innings of one run baseball, picking up his first professional win. Barria is the 9th ranked prospect in the Angles system according to Baseball America, but in his last four starts, he has given up exactly three earned runs over five innings. The sun is out and shining here in Burlington, so without further adieu, time for the links!
