Kings Add Britton, Lose Sanchez

Outfielder Dwight Britton heads to Clinton as Kris Sanchez hits DL

 

Clinton, IA -The Clinton LumberKings, in conjunction with the Seattle Mariners have announced the addition of outfielder Dwight Britton to the 25-man roster.  Britton has been promoted from short-A Pulaski to take the place of DH Kris Sanchez, who has been transferred to the disabled list effective today.

 

Britton, a non-drafted free agent signed by the Mariners in 2003, hit .288 with eight doubles, seven home runs and 23 RBI in 44 games with the Pulaski Mariners prior to the call-up.  The Corn Island, Nicaragua native hit .253 with six home runs and 37 RBI with Pulaski last year, .263 with eight RBI in 30 games in the Arizona League in 2007.

 

Sanchez hit .291 with 20 doubles, 10 home runs and 41 RBI in 72 games with the LumberKings this season.  The West Division All-Star also spent time on the disabled list from July 16 through August 1.

 

The move gives the LumberKings a total of 25 active players on the roster, including one on the disabled list.  No number is yet known for Britton, who joins the club in Clinton tonight.

Bladergroen, Hesketh Headed to Clinton

LumberKings add first baseman from High Desert, pitcher from Everett

 

Clinton, IA -The Clinton LumberKings, in conjunction with the Seattle Mariners have announced the additions of first-baseman Ian Bladergroen and left-hander Jonathan Hesketh to the roster.  To make room, infielder Jetsy Extrano has been sent back to the Arizona League Mariners while outfielder Denny Almonte has been transferred to the disabled list, retroactive to August 1.

 

Bladergroen was signed by the Mariners prior to this season out of independent ball.  The Chino Hills, CA native hit .264 with 17 doubles, 11 home runs and 46 RBI in 79 games with the Mavericks this season.

 

Hesketh was Seattle’s 20th round pick out of the University of New Mexico in the 2009 June draft.  The Langley, B.C. native went 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three relief outings with Everett, allowing just a hit in 5.1 innings while walking none and striking out six.  He had started the year in the Arizona League, going 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA in five outings.

 

Extrano hit just .045 (1-for-22) in six games with the LumberKings.  Almonte was hitting .254 with 22 doubles, 13 home runs and 53 RBI in 92 games.

 

The move gives the LumberKings a total of 25 active players, three listed on the disabled list.  Bladergroen and Hesketh are expected to join the team tonight at Alliant Energy Field as they take on the Burlington Bees at 7:00 PM.  Neither has yet chosen a number.

Left-hander Derrick Saito joins Clinton, LumberKings announce other moves

                       

Clinton, IA – The Clinton LumberKings, in conjunction with the Seattle Mariners have announced a series of roster moves today.  Left-hander Derrick Saito has joined the club following a three-player deal between the Mariners and Kansas City that sent infielder Yuniesky Betancourt to the Royals.

 

Saito was originally drafted by the Royals in the 16th round of the June 2008 draft out of Cal Poly.  The Wailuki, Hawaii native went 2-6 with a 4.15 ERA and two saves for Kansas City’s low-A Midwest League affiliate in Burlington this season.  He struck out 53 while walking just 15 over 22 appearances, all in relief.  Saito faced the LumberKings twice as a Bee, going 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA and four strikeouts in 2.0 innings.

 

To make room for Saito, right-hander Andres Esquibel was sent back to short-A Everett.  Esquibel was 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA in eight outings, one start with Clinton this season.

 

The Mariners also announced two other moves to the Clinton 25-man roster.  Outfielder Steve Moss was released by the organization, clearing space for outfielder Maximo Mendez to return from the disabled list.  Moss hit .238 with nine doubles, four home runs and 26 RBI in 43 games with the LumberKings this season.  Mendez is hitting .203 with eight triples, 35 runs scored and 19 stolen bases, but has been on the disabled list since June 22.

 

Saito has yet to choose a number.  The Clinton roster stands at 25 active, with two listed on the disabled list.

 

The LumberKings (7-11) open a three-game series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps (15-3) at Parkview Field tomorrow night.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM central time.  Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at www.kcln.com.
